Dear USKBTC Members,
The checks for the 2009 Futurity are in the mail. This was a difficult year for Futurity, and the following explains why the checks were delayed and what you should expect if you participated in the 2009 event.
As we all know, last year was a difficult year economically for many of us. The Club, like all other organizations, saw a significant drop in donations to support our events, and it impacted the Futurity significantly. In fact, the combination of entry fees and donations did not cover the cost of holding the Futurity for the first time in its 20+ year history.
The Governors have discussed the best way to provide a payout that would have meaning to those who entered. The result was a decision to commit $600 from the Club's treasury and to only pay for Best in Futurity, Best of Opposite, Best Jr. Puppy Dog and Bitch, and Best Puppy Dog and Bitch. This results in those classes getting a small but reasonable payout. If the $600.00 had been spread across all the traditional classes, the payments, in some cases, would have been less than a dollar. Please know that there is no “gold plating” in managing the Futurity. The exhibitor's gifts are donated…our only expense is the catalog, location, mailings, judge’s gifts, etc., all of which will be looked at carefully as we plan 2010.
Your leadership believes strongly in the Futurity…it brings our Club together on a beautiful Fall afternoon and allows us to both enjoy our Kerry Blues, as well as get to know one another better. We are taking a look at the Futurity after 20+ years and considering changes which will make it a bit more exciting, as well as increase competition. More about that will be coming over the next several weeks. If you have any questions, please phone me and I will be glad to address any of your concerns.
