Young Puppy, CAYDEN, Found a Home!
UPDATE . . .UPDATE! Cayden has tentatively found a home as of 2/12/10
Cayden is the victim of not one, but two previous placements gone wrong. His first family purchased him from what they believed was a reputable breeder (actually a licensed commercial kennel), and when this exuberant young terrier turned out to be more than they could handle and aforementioned “reputable breeder” refused to take him back, they tried to do the right thing by placing him themselves. His second owner claimed to be familiar with the breed and initially raved that he was exactly what she wanted, but just two months later, and right before Christmas, dumped this still un-groomed puppy in a rural animal shelter in the mountains of northern New Mexico.
Cayden remained there for nearly a week before a rescue volunteer in another state spotted his picture on Petfinder. Nobody at the shelter was familiar with Kerry Blue Terriers, and few people looked twice at this unkempt, frantic black puppy. Thankfully, the shelter was rescue-friendly, and more than happy to allow the USKBTC to take Cayden for fostering and placement.

Cayden was neutered at the shelter, and is up-to-date on all his vaccinations. He is a very sweet, affectionate, eager-to-please boy who gets along well with our own two Kerries, cat, and even guinea pigs. He is crate-trained, walks nicely on a leash, loves to play games of fetch and tug-o-war, and is progressing nicely with housebreaking. But Cayden is still very much a puppy, and a terrier puppy at that, and cannot yet be trusted to behave without close supervision. He is also extremely “oral,” and will pick up and try to eat or play with just about anything that will fit in his mouth. Time and training should take care of this, and Cayden is already responding extremely well to the command “leave it!”
Cayden already has the foundations of a wonderful family pet. All he needs now is a wonderful family willing to follow through on his training and socialization. Primary consideration will be given to prospective adopters living in New Mexico and surrounding states, within driving distance of Albuquerque, as I WILL NOT SHIP CAYDEN.
If you are interested in adopting Cayden, please e-mail me. You will be asked to fill out and submit a short USKBTC adoption application in order to be considered. Click on the link for the USKBTC Adoption Application. There is no fee for submitting the application, though a donation to USKBTC Rescue to cover Cayden’s expenses will be requested when he is placed.
