AWTA Provisional Draw Dog (Strongdog) Trial
Sponsored by the Glen of Imaal Terrier Club of America (GITCA)
NEW EVENT FOR LARGER TERRIERS
Sunday May 11th, 2008
Start time: No earlier than 2P.M.

The American Working Terrier Association (AWTA) has agreed to try the Strongdog event on a provisional basis. They are calling it “Draw Dog.” The provisional period will be for a total of 4 trials. Reports will be submitted back to the AWTA.

Briefly, Draw Dog trials are similar to Earthdog, but for this event the dogs must go in 11x11 inch diameter tunnels, either 10 or 30 feet in length with 1-3 turns, and pull out a weighted quarry. The quarry is a badger or raccoon pelt weighing about 20-35 pounds, depending on the class. There are 3 classes: Novice, Open, and Certificate. Novice consists of a 10 foot tunnel with 1 turn. Open and Certificate have 30 foot tunnels with 3 turns.

Breeds eligible to participate: Glen of Imaal, Irish,Kerry Blue, Soft Coated Wheaten, & Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Starting time: The Draw Dog trial will begin after the completion of the AKC Earthdog test also held that day at the same site, but will not start any earlier than 2P.M. There is a chance the trial could start a bit later than 2P.M. The order of the classes is Novice, Open, then Certificate.

Trial Chairperson/Secretary: Monique Anthony
Judge: Jo Ann Frier-Murza
Premium: available soon; will contain a summary of the current rules
Trophies & Prizes: Ribbons will be awarded to all qualifiers in the Novice and Open classes. AWTA will provide provisional Draw Dog Certificates to all eligible breeds that qualify in the Open class. A ribbon will be awarded to each Best in Breed winner of the Certificate class.

The Glen of Imaal Terrier Club of America will provide a pewter badger pin to all Glen of Imaal Terriers that qualify in any class at this trial. Only one pin per dog.

If any other clubs want to donate prizes or for more information about either GITCA event, contact Monique Anthony, GITCA Test & Trial Chairperson.
