Molly, 2 year old Kerry bitch in New Mexico Needs a Permanent Home

Molly is the young Kerry bitch who was surrendered to USKBTC Rescue along with a 2 1/2 year old male (Opie) in August of 2007, after failing to produce puppies for at least two owners. Molly and Opie were extremely neglected, with badly matted coats, fleas, ticks, worms, and eye infections. Molly also had an umbilical hernia which was repaired when she was spayed. In addition, both were diagnosed with ehrlichia, a serious tick-borne infection that can be fatal if not treated. Neither dog showed any obvious outward signs of being sick; we only discovered they had ehrlichia because it is USKBTC Rescue Policy to have full-panel blood work done on any Kerry that does not have a fully documented health history! Both dogs spent several weeks on antibiotics and their spaying and neutering was delayed until their blood counts were completely normal.

Opie has already been adopted, but Molly is still available to the right home.

Molly’s recovery brings to mind the line, “You’ve come a long way, baby!” When she first arrived in foster care, she weighed just 21 lbs and had no muscle tone--even a short walk up the street would exhaust her. Five months later, she is a fit and healthy 31 lb. cutie, who thoroughly enjoys her daily walks and romping with my own Kerry bitch! Her coat is in the process of clearing to it’s mature color, which looks like it will be a very nice shade of silver. She is very outgoing and loves everybody—other dogs, cats, small pets, children, etc. Molly would make an ideal pet for a family with school age children, who want a dog they can include in their everyday outings and activities. Molly, aka “Short Stack” because of her diminutive size, is housebroken, crate trained, travels well, and understands some basic commands. She does not try to get on furniture or the beds in her foster home, though she is still learning not to counter-surf! She is very gentle, but does tend to mouth and paw at people for attention. It would be easy for her new family to put these behaviors to good use by teaching her to “high five” and beg. One very endearing trait of Molly’s is that she is fascinated by the TV, and will watch and respond to certain television programs and movies, particularly Animal Planet!

Molly will be 2 years old in February, and is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. If you are interested in adopting her, please fill out and submit a USKBTC Adoption Application. Primary consideration will be given to applicants living in New Mexico and surrounding states.

(Please note: We will not ship Molly! Adopters are responsible for making all necessary arrangements and paying any additional costs involved in getting a dog to them). An adoption donation to USKBTC Rescue will be requested to cover Molly’s rescue expenses and allow us to continue helping other Kerries.
