Jane Eno and "Jessie"
Hope everyone is out there having fun with their Kerries. Having a well trained Kerry is a treat to take anywhere. At the end of the month I packed mine into the SUV and drove to Adirondacks for a weekend of camping, hiking and kayaking. Our female Shih Tzu came along too, and did her best to keep up. Jessie was more then happy to jump into the kayaks and go along for the ride. He thought it was an excellent idea – giving him a better view of the ducks and fish in the water.

Everyone at the camp ground was impressed by his good manners and the fact he was willing to ride in a kayak without leaping about or getting at all worried about it. He even got to go out with other people after they saw how much fun he was having, and that he was no problem.
We got back on Wednesday, and being either brave or foolish, I took him to an obedience trial on Saturday. There were two trials on Saturday and one on Sunday. In all, my almost 10 year old kerry competed in Utility and Open obedience twice on Saturday and once on Sunday. Not bad for senior! He even managed to pick up a couple fairly reasonable scores, considering we hadn’t practiced at all during the week.

I am really enjoying having a “trained” mature kerry. He is such a pleasure to take places and show. I hope everyone in the Kerry community has this experience some day of having a sound, healthy, happy and well trained Kerry to live with.

We will be seeing all of you in October I hope! I’ll be arriving on Monday to set up the raffle at the agility trial. The agility starts on Tuesday and continues until Friday. Obedience and rally will take place on Wednesday. Please feel free to drop by the raffle table and say hello. If you have an extra hour, I’d love some help selling tickets.
