Performance Newsletter
For June 2007
By Jane Eno
There has been some interesting news from the AKC regarding obedience from the July 2007 Board Meeting. The details are not posted yet, but the highlights say that in January 1, 2009, three of the current Non-Regular Classes will become optional Titling classes. They will also create a new non-regular Wild Card Class. Speculation among the fancy is that one of the classes that will become a titling class will be Pre-Novice. This has been discussed before and has been expected for a long time. It will be interesting to see if this will cause it to become less popular, (It will now be full price, instead of the reduced rate that most clubs charge, since the clubs will have to pay fees and use judges instead of club members.) or more popular, as people try for the title. The other discussion is if these new classes will be allowed to compete for High In Trial.
The other piece of news is an announcement of a set of regional events for dogs to qualify for the Obedience Nationals starting July 1, 2008. Once again, people are speculating if these will be separate events, or just shows designated as qualifiers.
Hopefully, we will learn more about these changes when the July Board Meeting minutes are posted.
Front and Finish Magazine is the organization that does the "Delany" and the "First and Foremost" point systems every year. You might have noticed that I have not been posting any of these systems for a while. The reason is that they have been recreating their computer systems and the counts have not only been sparce, but they have been very inaccurate, listing obedience dogs from previous years as agility winners in the current years and other mistakes. They now have their new website on line and say the point systems should be available soon. I will post more information, as soon as I can get it and verify that it is somewhat accurate.
BRAGS
From Dana Kincaid:
On Saturday, June 9, 2007, Daisy completed her Companion Dog (CD) title to become CH MACH Kerigolf Flower Power CD RE NF. As with her Rally titles, Daisy earned the CD with the minimum possible number of attempts. She seems to be having a great time in Obedience, and her hyper-alert, swiveling head movements provide hilarious entertainment during the long sits and downs.
From Susan Coliton:
Afton's MidSomer Night's Dream attained her RN in three straight and finished 2nd two of the three legs.
Eidenbock's Jamison Lee, CD, RAE-2, now has two legs towards his RAE-3. I believe he is the only Kerry in the nation with a RAE-2 title. Not bad for a dog that almost put down due to aggressiveness.
