Kerry Performance Newsletter

December 2006
2006 has ended and we are in January of 2007. I always find myself thinking back over the year and setting some goals for
the coming year at this time. It is nice to start the year with a healthy, well trained Kerry Blue Terrier, who can
participate in so many different sports and activities. This year AKC Herding has been added to our opportunities for new
adventures. In the spirit of the versatility of our breed, my goals for Jessie this year will be:
- Earn a 195 or better in Utility B in Obedience
- Finish our AXP Title in agility
- Pass the tracking certification to allow us to sign up for a TD test
- Participate in one AKC Herding Match
We already started the year of 2007 with a bang, finishing our AXP the first weekend of the year. Now on to the other goals.
It should be interested to find out how complicated it will be to train across so many venues at the same time. I think
Jessie is up to the task, but I am not sure about myself. At the same time I will be competing with my shih tzu, Bailey, in
Utility Obedience. It will be a fun year in all.
Sharon Burnett of Seattle Washington was nice enough to answer my request for goals for 2007. Here is what she
wrote.
Well Jane, here's my goals for 2007.
At the beginning of November, 2006, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and began treatment. I haven't been working any
of the dogs in agility class nor have we had competition. My balance has been affected, but I am working hard to overcome
this problem and be able to run again.
My goals for 2007 are simple:
- Regain my confidence enough to work Rocket in class
- Have fun with the 3Rs
- Train Renny in basic obedience to ready her for agility
- Have fun with the 3Rs
- Run Rascal in a trial
- Have fun with the 3Rs
All the best!

Good luck Sharon! We will all be pulling for you as you work through your MS. I am sure the 3Rs will be right there to prod
you on and keep you laughing all the way.
I asked people to send in their achievements over the last year, and here are the responses I got. Congratulations to
everyone!
Kerry Review of 2006
From Susan Coliton and the Kerry Crew-Halley, Blue Fuzzbutt, CD, RE; Eidenbock's Jamison Lee, CD, RAE, and Afton's
MidSomer's Night Dream.
This year has been good to me and Eidenbock's Jamison Lee, CD, RAE. He earned his RAE in May of this year and now has
6 legs completed towards his second RAE.
Our new girl, Afton's MidSomer's Night Dream, is currently in obedience training and will make her performance debut
at the spring terrier show in Sacramento, Ca. in April of next year.
From Patty and Duffy, my most “Excellent” Kerry!!
Just want to share our great news! Today (Nov. 19th), at the Charles River Dog Training Club trial, held at MasterPeace Dog
Training in Franklin, MA, Duffy got his third leg, showing under Mrs. Susan M. King, and is now celebrating his new
title: Wildside’s Quiet Man, CDX RA!!! Yahoo!! It has been a long, arduous road, but today was the day! We were in
the Open B class – we thought we would have our title before now. When we realized that wasn’t going to be the case, it was
too late to switch back, since Open A was full. Even though we were in the “B” class, we got a respectable score of 189!
We’ll continue showing in Open B while we try for our Rally Excellent title next Spring and polish up our Utility routine.
The club did a wonderful job, the judge had very kind comments for us, and the competitors were very supportive!
Man, today was a great day! ,br>
From Tracey Fulmer
Bailey and I really came together as an agility team last year. When I took my first class in the winter of 2005, I
was thinking agility would be a fun, bonding activity for the cold winter months. I never expected it to turn into a
passion. The sport has become so popular here in New England that we've been shut out of trials if we didn't get our entry
in on the first day. Personally, I love the challenge of figuring out how to handle a course and how to identify and train
for improvements while motivating Bailey to go faster. (If only these Kerries could chase a rabbit around the
course...they'd be rivaling those Border Collies for course times!)

We earned several AKC titles in 2006: in Standard -- Agility Open, Agility Excellent, and Masters Agility Excellent, and in Jumpers -- Agility Excellent. And in NADAC we got our Novice Standard title. As for my rescue darling, Isobel, I'm using agility training as a confidence builder and expect she will someday earn titles and surpass Bailey in the speed department!
From Janet Beeby
Hi Jane,
Gabby (Keriland's Talk About Town) achieved MACH 2 this year.
Thanks!
From Jane Eno
My own Jessie finished his Rally Advanced title. He also got his Novice Preferred Jumpers and standard titles,
Open Preferred Jumpers and Standard and his Excellent Preferred Jumpers titles in 2006.
