Re: USKBTC Breed Standard Revision Update
In accordance with Article IV, Section 3 of the USKBTC By-Laws, all valid ballots cast on the proposed revisions to the breed standard were counted on June 4, 2005, by a tabulating committee comprised of three USKBTC members in good standing (Stephen Schultz, Eleanor Schultz and Sandy Redmon). The committee certifies the results of the vote as follows:
Returns
- 534 Ballots were mailed to USKBTC members with voting privileges.
- 274 Ballots were returned to the USKBTC Secretary (approximately 51% of those mailed).
- 240 of the returned ballots were declared VALID and counted (approximately 88% of those returned).*
*34 returned ballots were INVALID because they were either marked incorrectly, returned incorrectly, or the member responding was not in good standing (lapsed membership).
Results
- 207 of the 240 VALID Ballots were recorded as YES votes (approximately 87%).
- 33 of the 240 VALID Ballots were recorded as NO votes (approximately 13%).
Article VII, Section 2 of the By-Laws mandates that a favorable vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the members in good standing who return valid ballots shall be required to effect any amendment to the breed standard. Based on the election results certified by the tabulating committee, that requirement has been satisfied. We now proceed with the process of amending the Standard.
The following steps must be completed before the revised breed standard will take effect:
- USKBTC Secretary must submit to AKC the election results and copies of the ballot, cover letter and proposed revised standard.
- Upon receipt of these materials from the USKBTC, the revised standard and election results will be scheduled for inclusion on the AKC Board book ; the date will be determined based upon the next board meeting. The AKC will notify the USKBTC of this schedule (see box, below).
- Upon approval of the AKC Board of Directors, AKC will send notice to the USKBTC.
AKC Breed Standard Schedule
- The revised standard and election results are submitted to the AKC Board of Directors. The standard must include a comparison of changes from the current standard to revised standard.
- Publication in the next issue of the AKC Gazette on the Secretary’s page as a proposed revised standard.
- After the 60 day period, it is resubmitted to the AKC Board with comparison of changes from current standard to revised standard, a complete standard as proposed, and any correspondence from the fancy.
- AKC Board of Directors approves the standard and it is published in the next Gazette on the Secretary’s page as the revised standard with approved and effective dates.
Please note:
- The revisions do not become effective until AFTER approval by the AKC Board of Directors.
- After AKC approval, there will be a mandatory five-year moratorium on additional revisions.
A very special thank you to Anthony Lopez, Anne Katona and the Standard Revisions Committee for a job well done!!!
