New Legislative Newsletter
December 2005
From the Editors:
Hi Everyone,
We have been asked if we would like to do articles for the website on Canine Legislation. So we will be working on providing articles on a monthly basis or as immediate as needed, if something comes up that warrants it.
We would love to have some input from all of you, as to what you would like us to include in these articles. Please tell us if there is anything you would like to have followed up on. Of course, we would also like to hear from any of you who have canine legislative issues going on in your local areas. Contact information for any Coalitions that you know of would also be helpful. Any suggestions are welcome.
Legislative Alerts Around the County
North Carolina
In North Carolina there is pending state legislation that would require local shelters to spay/neuter. This would be enforced through the N.C. Department of Agriculture. They are looking for this to be funded by a fee on dog food purchases.

Massachusetts
In Massachusetts, Rep. Michael F. Rush, D-West Roxbury, has filed legislation to build pedestrian trails along the Charles River in West Roxbury and reopen Havey Beach and the Havey Beach Stable for canoeing and kayaking along the Charles River. Rush's legislation will direct the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation to reopen what was once a popular recreation location for the community and create public access to the river.
This legislation calls for the construction of pedestrian walking/running trails along the river from Route 109/Spring Street to the city-owned Millennium Park, including space for a dog run, nature observatory and the re-opening of the Havey Beach Stable building for summer boat rentals and possible community uses.
