August 4th Update: USKBTC Obedience Trial on Track

Our first ever USKBTC obedience trial is on track to be held on September 30, 2004 in Kimberton PA. Entries are starting to come in, and we already have a truly impressive trophy list, with donations still coming in. Many thanks to all the Kerry clubs and individuals who have pledged money for the trophy fund or for specific items to be awarded!

Our obedience trial is part of a combined specialty trial where several terrier breeds (12 in all*) are sharing a single venue and judge(s) for their individual obedience trials. In order to help with the planning, PLEASE GET YOUR ENTRIES IN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE THE SEPTEMBER 9TH DEADLINE! There are already questions about whether a second judge will be needed to handle the total entry, and it would help the trial organizers tremendously to know this early enough so they don't have to scramble to schedule another judge and obtain the necessary mats and other equipment for a second ring at the last minute.

A premium list with entry form can be obtained by calling trial secretary Ami Hooper at (512) 452-4710, or you can e-mail me and I will send it as a .pdf attachment. The complete list of prizes and donors will be available for viewing on-line soon as well as being published in the trial catalog.

*The other breeds that will be having their own obedience trials in Kimberton are Manchester Terriers, Sealyhams, Cairns, Irish Terriers, Mini Bulls, Norwich and Norfolks, Parson Russells, Staffy Bulls, Lakelands, and Westies.

Please pass this on to anyone in these breeds who is doing obedience. Pre-Novice and Veterans classes are being offered in addition to the regular classes.

Obedience Trial at Montgomery

Premium lists are now available for the first annual USKBTC obedience trial, to be held as part of the Montgomery week festivities on Thursday, September 30 2004, in Kimberton, PA. The trial is part of the Terrier Indoor Combined Obedience Specialty Trial hosted by the Norfolk and Norwich Terrier Club, and will be held at the same location as the all-terrier agility trials.

Entry deadline is September 9, but entering sooner will help with the planning!

The premium list can be obtained online, or by contacting the trial secretary, Ami Hooper, or by calling (512) 452-4710. You can also contact me and I can send a copy as an Adobe e-mail attachment.

Obedience trial catalog advertising space is being sold, with prices ranging from $10 for a quarter page ad to $35 for a cover. Details are in the premium list, or contact Ami Hooper for more information.

Finally, in order to make this trial extra special, and to show our support to all the dogs and owners who compete, trophy donations are needed! The USKBTC is offering small Club medallions to first place in every class as well as large Club medallions and the trophies for High in Trial and High Combined. Awards are still needed for class placements, as well as cash and/or trophy donations from Clubs, organizations, and individuals for exhibitor gifts and special prizes that can be awarded at obedience trials. Some suggestions for these latter awards can include:

  • Highest scoring veteran
  • Highest scoring dog with an ILP number [i.e. rescues]
  • Highest scoring dog with a conformation title
  • Highest scoring dog with an agility title
  • Highest scoring Canadian-bred
  • Highest scoring bred-by exhibitor
  • Highest scoring dog handled by a [county, state, province, region etc.] resident

Use your imagination! The general rule of thumb is that the eligibility criteria must be something that can be easily verified from information published in the catalog. Qualifying scores are normally required, but this can be waived if the donor wishes.

Contact me to make a donation or for more information. Checks should be made out to the USKBTC. A list of prizes will be available online and all donations will be acknowledged in the trial catalog. The show chairman is requesting that participating Clubs submit their awards listings in early August, so I need to hear to hear from people as soon as possible!
